The faith community in Bird Island has a tradition of coming together twice a year for community worship. In June the service is typically held in the park during Island Days, our community celebration and in November. We gather the Wednesday before Thanksgiving as a community. A different church hosts each year. This worship service celebrates the flame lit by God our Father in the hearts of believers and of their communities though they come from many different cultures, peoples and nations spread throughout the earth, in a state of perpetual migration and fresh settlement. Jesus Christ shares the light of faith with us. This faith is “knowledge of the glory of God which shines on the face of Christ”. It is the treasure which Paul evokes in 2 Cor 4: 5-18. Every believer and community of believers shares this treasure and bears witness to it in all its richness and from the frailty of the human condition.
Every summer on the 2nd Thursday in June our church hosts an Ice Cream Social with the proceeds benefiting a community member in need. Hope to see you there!
OSLC and Cross of Calvary in neighboring Olivia have combined efforts to provide a vibrant Bible School each summer. The new relationship has the event alternating between the two churches each year.
Vacation Bible School (VBS) is a wonderful opportunity for Our Savior Lutheran Church to proclaim the life-saving story of Jesus to our community, taking a fun, worldly theme and making it Christ-centered. Our Savior Lutheran Church will host a Vacation Bible School for children 4 years old – 8th grade from 9 AM to Noon in August. Watch the calendar for 2015 dates. The school will include Bible lessons, music, crafts, snacks, and games. FREE.
Our talented quilters use their hands and hearts to create quilts that warm others both figuratively and literally. Graduating Seniors, members who are ill, Safe Avenues, Project Turnabout are just a few of the people and groups to have received their loving creations.
OSLC recently renewed their investment in, and commitment to, the Renville County community by reconstructing the food stand on the Fair Grounds in Bird Island. Each year members, young and old, join forces to provide food for the body and soul.
This annual event in December draws hundreds of women to gather, eat, laugh, chat and celebrate God through the entertaining programs presented. Past events have included musical groups, authors and other faith based entertainment. This years supper will be held Dec. 3rd, 2014.
